House Hotel is set on the outskirts of Barnstaple approximately 1
mile from the town centre. We are situated on the A377 1/2 a mile
from its junction with the A39 Barnstaple to Bideford link road. Ample
car parking is available on site.
Lynwood House Hotel is a Victorian Gentleman's residence that was
built at the end of the last century, for a doctor and his wife and
their staff. The Roberts family have run the Lynwood for the last
31 years, and have in that time built up the reputation of the restaurant
which specialises in fresh fish and other local produce, and is featured
in all of the most respected food guides in the country.
All of our Rooms are large and have their own private facilities,
in addition all of the rooms have tea and coffee facilities, hair
dryers, trouser presses, television, and direct dial telephones.
Barnstaple is an excellent location from which to explore Exmoor,
the land of Lorna Doone and Tarka the Otter and a mere 30 minutes
from the rugged expanses of Dartmoor. North Devon is blessed with
many beautiful golden beaches and many miles of coastal paths, perfect
to walk off the indulgences of the local Clotted Cream.
North Devon also has a great history of golf, the Royal North Devon
Golf Club, 12 minutes from the hotel, is the oldest links course in
England and also home to the museum of golf, and Saunton's championship
East course and West course 20 minutes from the hotel, ranked in the
top 25 courses in the whole of the British Isles. There are also another
10 courses within 30 minutes of the hotel catering to all abilities
of golfer. For those in need of a little practice before their round
there is a 24 bay golf range just a mile from the hotel.
The kitchens are run by Ruth Roberts and her son Matthew and the Restaurant
by John Roberts. You can always be sure of a warm welcome at The Lynwood
as it is our home and not just another hotel.
Our policy on using the best local produce also extends to our glassware
as we use only the finest lead crystal made by Dartington Crystal
in nearby Torrington.
